Micro Movie Marathon

For the last 4 years, the Micro Movie Marathon or M33M has happened an average of 1.75 times a year. You’d need an advanced degree in mathematics to understand let alone explain the perodicity of the Micro Movie Marathon. Perhaps it’s merely coincidence that Lena Maude Wilson went on to complete just such a degree AFTER her triumph at the 2013 Winter Micro Movie Marathon.

Meanwhile in Hollywood, a team of prodigal Michigan Movie Makers is working to crack convention and launch a new genre. Among them, the only repeat Major Award Winner – Patrick Kelly. Did the Micro Movie Marathon collaborations with his brother Luke and Jim Kenney presage his transformation of a stagnant industry? Or again, just coincidence?

The list of Major Award Winners is like a future who’s who of regional media innovators. Arianna Wasserman, the Ciaglaski Brothers, Jamie Bernard, Jimmy Tufts, Cody Stowe, Andrea Claire Maio… Major Award Winners are artists to watch, the folks who have both chops and gumption.

Wait a second – The Micro Movie Marathon is just a dinky little event.  Why would winning a Major Award have such predictive power – isn’t it all sort of tongue in cheek? The Micro Movie Marathon isn’t a real film festival… is it?

2015 is M33M’s 5th year, and our debut at the State Theatre in downtown Traverse City, February 18, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Still free and open to the public.

Maybe we’re not Sundance yet but the Micro Movie Marathon is very significant. We’ve been taking stock of who’s doing what movie-wise, a more than annual regional inventory. The need to take inventory presupposes that there is so much production activity that it’s tough to keep track of. Think about that for a moment. How big is our regional industry? How many of us are there?

Over 200 short movies have screened at the Micro Movie Marathon since 2011 from as almost as many entrants. This is a chance for professionals and enthusiasts alike to be part of the bigger picture – who might the up and comers be,  who still has the magic?

You’ve heard the rumors – upgrades to the Michigan Movie Makers are in process. This year we anticipate the best Micro Movie Marathon participation ever, especially from professionals who thrive on collaboration. We make more and better when we work together.

If you want to get more traction as a movie maker, or if you’re dreaming of launching a career in any aspect of production, here’s the one event you’ll want to be in on. Show us what you’ve got and increase you chances of being included in regional projects. Advance our collective momentum.

Here’s everything you need to enter.
