Arts Advocacy Day – The Alliance for Community Media is pleased to participate as a national co-sponsor of Arts Advocacy Day 2012. The ACM’s Sylvia Strobel provided remarks for community media at the Congressional Arts Caucus briefing on April 4, 2012. The National Arts Action Summit will be held in Washington DC on April 16-17, 2012, and ACM members, Arlington Independent Media, Montgomery Community Media and DCTV will produce a national television special from the Summit for distribution by participating ACM members. The CAP Act is included as part of the public media issue brief in the 2012 Congressional Arts Handbook.
ACM Youth Media Summit – Registration is now open for the 2012 Philadelphia Youth Media Summit! Registration is open to ACM members and non-members and is completely free! The ACM will kick off its two-year youth media initiative in the city of brotherly love at Peirce College on May 8, 2012. Please visit the ACM’s website to register.

Devos Institute for Arts Management – Founded by Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser in 2001, the Fellowship at the DeVos Institute for Arts Management is an immersive program in arts management strategy designed to prepare mid-career arts managers for executive positions in today’s complex arts environment. Hosted at one of the largest and most dynamic performing arts institutions, the Fellowship offers a structured blend of academic training, hands-on work experience, independent and collective learning opportunities, and personalized mentoring. Fellows develop close working relationships with Kennedy Center leadership, complete significant projects within the context of the Kennedy Center, and are connected to a vast network of DeVos Institute alumni throughout the United States and in 39 countries worldwide. Whole Foods Silverdocs Grant Application Open March 21-May 4, 2012 – The AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival and Whole Foods Market will be accepting applications from filmmakers who are looking for a $25,000 grant towards the development or completion of a documentary feature film project for green-themed films. We are looking for well thought out feature film projects in development, in production or post-production that focus on environmental themes. Projects to be considered will address “green” topics—large or small—that relate in a significant way to the environment. Examples include (but are not limited to) food, farming, water, pollution, waste, land preservation, climate change, natural disasters, energy conservation, and alternative fuel sources. Your film should tell a compelling cinematic story that has the power to inform, motivate and/or inspire positive action. We are supporting feature projects only (39 minutes in length of longer). We expect that filmmakers submitting proposals would have a minimum amount of preexisting filmmaking experience. Pare Lorentz Documentary Fund – The International Documentary Association is now accepting proposals for the Pare Lorentz Documentary Fund, which provides production support for full-length documentary films. The Pare Lorentz Documentary Fund is made possible by a grant from The New York Community Trust. Named in honor of the landmark documentary filmmaker, the Fund provides annual grants totaling $75,000 to be used in the creation of original, independent documentary films that illuminate pressing issues in the United States. In 2012, grants will be made to up to 5 projects that tell a compelling story and focus on one of Pare Lorentz’s central concerns—the appropriate use of the natural environment, justice for all or the illumination of pressing social problems. The Women In Animation Phyllis Craig Scholarship Fund – $1,000 scholarship for a student who is studying animation at an accredited institution, demonstrates artistic talent, and desires to make animation her career. The winner will also receive a one-year membership to Women In Animation. Applicants must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited animation program, must be U.S. citizens, and must be in financial need. Submissions must include a portfolio or reel, a 500-word essay outlining education and career goals and explaining financial need, a written recommendation from a teacher or mentor, and a copy of student I.D, in addition to an application form (available on website). Women in Film Finishing Fund – Provides cash awards ranging from $1,000-$15,000, as well as in-kind services, for the completion of films by, for or about women. Open to short and long formats in all genres, including narrative, documentary, educational, animated and experimental. Principle photography and rough cut must be completed by time of application. Applications accepted from filmmakers around the world (men may apply, as long as their work is about or for women). Student projects ineligible. See website for complete guidelines and application. The Roy W. Dean New York City Video Grant – Funds Shorts, Documentaries, and Independent Features under $500,000. Funds films that are unique and make a contribution to society, that tell compelling stories about little known subjects. Projects with strong story-telling aspects are most likely to be awarded grants. Projects must be original, but may be of any length and may be works-in-progress. Independent filmmakers, student filmmakers, independent producers, and independent production companies may all submit. Winner receives over $18,000 worth of equipment, services, and consultations toward completing project; for a breakdown of products and services, see website. Submit a sample of previous work, along with a two-page project proposal describing the target audience for the film, plans for distribution, how the project is unique and how it benefits society, your relationship to the material, a synopsis, stylistic approach to the material, and a list of names and positions of proposed key production personnel. California Consumer Protection Foundation: Telecommunications Consumer Education Fund
The primary purpose of the California Consumer Protection Foundation is to further the interests of consumer protection and to benefit consumers in California. Currently, the Foundation is administering one active fund – the Telecommunications Consumer Education Fund – which supports the efforts of community-based organizations to ensure that Californians become more informed, savvy consumers of wireless telecom services. The Fund provides grants to nonprofit organizations and government agencies for programs that effectively educate consumers on the prevention and amelioration of abusive practices in wireless telecom services. Loreen Arbus Disability Awareness Grant – Film completion grant of $7,500 to a woman filmmaker for a film on physical or developmental disability issues. Directors and producers are eligible to apply. Films may be of any length or genre, and must be works-in-progress that have completed principle photography. Filmmakers must be U.S.-based. Submit application form (available on website), 2-page description of project and project budget (indicating amount raised to date), list of key creative personnel with one-paragraph bios, and a DVD of the work-in-progress. NOTE: Paperwork may be sent electronically, but DVD’s must be mailed or delivered.
