November meeting this Wednesday 11/16

Our last gathering was in September with Jeff Gibbs at the Career Tech Center. Barely a hint of winter and time to take stock of the plethora of regional projects that have sprouted up since.

We’ve moved the November and December meetings from the 4th to the 3rd Wednesdays, to evade holiday overlap. That means we’re meeting THIS Wednesday at the Up North Media Center, 324 Munson Avenue in Traverse City (map). 6:30 – 8:00 pm for the presentations and such, with a breakout social session at a location TBA. There’s also partner dancing at the college at 9:00, just a hop and skip from Up North – that’s where Dan Kelly’s ultimately ending up.

If you see this building, STOP!

Sara Baumann of Old Fan Films will be with us, having just wrapped production on her narrative short, “The Frayed Ends” with Mehren Khan. This local-ish project was enabled by a swarm of our very own, including producer Scott Tompkins and crew culled from the CTC Film and Media program.

Much to our great good fortune, Andrea Claire Maio has been marooned in Northern Michigan for at least another 6 months. She’ll give us a hint about what she is going to do about it, namely her new series Back to Your Senses.

Joe Carter presents a lightning tour of Up North, our one stop shop for non commercial regional video production AND distribution.

Dan Kelly is officially announcing the next M33M, (Michigan Movie Makers Micro Movie Marathon) coming this January. Rumors that the upcoming M33M will be marred by the fierce rivalry brewing between the snooty jet setters of the Interlochen Arts Academy and the venison jerky chawing yocals at the CTC’s Film and Media Center are totally false! Making movies is about collaboration, about working together for the common good, blaa blaa. Anyway, there’s just two months left to manifest your 3 minute masterwork, so clap your slates and grab your gaffer tape, it’s time to MOVIE!

Stop staring at screens and stacking wood all by your lonesome. Come energize yourself with some serious affinity!
