45th Parallel Productions, LLC is shooting action scenes for the film, “FORK.” This is an action/thriller about a former CIA operative pursued by an endless supply of foreign operatives and assassins, all after what he has in his possession. One week until shoot day. Come join us and take part in a day of heavy action on location. If you want to help out and crew, bring your talents. The action scenes will have full-on automatic gun fire (blanks), pyro, special fx rigging, zip line action and wound fx. Saturday 11am – 3pm +/-
This is a great way for M3 folks to share talents, skills and build a close-knit synergy. All are welcome. Details for the Open Studio are here. RSVP to [openstudio AT michiganmoviemakers DOT com] if you plan on coming. Thanks and come join us.
Here is the breakdown for shooting.
There will be gunfire exchange and tactical maneuvers between (4) actors, most importantly the ever-famous Dan Kelly, playing a Russian Assassin. The weapons will be 9mm handguns and (2) fully automatic Uzi-type submachine guns; all firing real-sounding blanks.
There will be pneumatic fx where compressed air rigs will simulate bullets striking the ground and a wooden structure.
Lucas Klein will suffer a direct bullet hit to his left thigh. This will be accomplished with a body squib. (a small explosive charge behind a blood pack, all neatly hidden behind the clothing and set off with a electrical charge via a plunger switch in Lucas’ hand. (no flinching allowed…Lol) The charge will blow a hole through the pants, splattering theatrical blood about.
A 200′ steel cable zipline will run overhead in the action zone. It will accommodate a camera person providing an exciting POV of some of the action sequences. The zipline will also be used in scene for Lucas Klein, a former CIA operative played by Mark Eiden (stuntman/actor) as he rapidly descends the high ridge line, sub machine gun ablaze, followed by dropping a high-explosive hand grenade on Mr. Kelly. In order to keep our fearless leader of M3 safe and secure we will be inserting a stand-in cardboard figure in his place, wired with explosives and smoke. This will be the end of the line for the well-used cardboard figure. If all goes well, there won’t be much left of it.
Time permitting, we plan on shooting Lucas sewing up the bullet wound to the left thigh using fish hooks and line. (Ouch!) This is done with a special second skin and a piece of beef to simulate muscle tissue. A blood pump will provide the oozing blood coming out of the wound with every stitch. (Okay, a little grotesque I suppose. What can I say? It’s for the good of the film….)
This should be a fun and exciting shoot; a chance to witness special fx without a Hollywood budget, yet realistic. Due to the nature of the fx used, great safety and precaution will be exercised.
Come enjoy a fun collaboration with the M3 folks. Dress warm and see you Saturday, December 14th.
