Schedule a time to be interviewed on 3/27 from 4 – 7 pm

We’re on for March 27 from 4-7 pm at UpNorth Media Center to record our stories about the regional film industry and our experience with the Michigan film incentive.
We need everyone – student, professional, camera operator, writer – to sign up for an interview of 5 – 15 minutes. The more faces the better, legislators will take notice if they hear from lots of constituents. More information follows, but here’s the bottom line – come in and tell your story!
Even if you plan on being present for the entire production from 4 – 10 pm, schedule an interview between 4 and 7, either by emailing schedule AT michigan movie makers DOT com or calling Morgan at 248 891-3460.
Questions to think about…
Why do you live here?
What do you do? How are you involved with film?
How did the incentives help you?
What if the incentives didn’t exist?
What would a thriving local film industry look like/what would it do for the area/state?

I am a Michigan Movie Maker
Northwest Lower Michigan’s Film Industry (tentative title).
A series of short interviews with 20-30 regional producers, directors, camera ops, editors, educators etc. convey the economic importance of building a thriving film industry, regionally and state-wide. “I am” is presented to legislators by M3 teams and distributed via youtube and vimeo. There could also be multiple versions – 15 minutes, 3 minutes, 30 seconds depending on where it’s going.
Interviews are recorded on March 27, from 4-7 pm and editorial happens either immediately afterwards or on a day soon after.
Morgan Burke-Beyers is coordinating the gear commitments, interview schedules and most other roles, Bill Latka is our Producer on location. We want 3-4 hot sets at UpNorth Media to interview each other. Dan Kelly and Bill Latka have committed cameras, mics and lights for 2 hot sets, the rest could be provided by Rich Brauer, Jeff Morgan, Aaron Dennis and UpNorth.

Besides scheduling an interview, what else can you do?

We need to identify 2-3 lead editors. UpNorth has 8 Premiere Elements stations, but if that’s not your platform of choice be willing to bring in your own rig. Ideally you have been paid to edit professional projects.
We’ll need extra hands around the interview stations to assist with lights, mics, etc.
The interview process might run more smoothly if there is someone else asking questions. Step up if you are talent and experienced with conducting interviews.
Can we provide some numbers for the economic impact of regional film industry? Even if it’s just a simple graphic of our combined incomes for 2008-2009. Think about what you made in film back then, and we’ll figure out some anonymous method of collecting that information the night of.
High school students may need rides. Many of Scott Tompkin’s FNM kids don’t drive, but having them participate would be powerful, they would show the diversity of our support.
Offer suggestions and feedback, coordinate catering

The quality of our end product will depend on how prepared we are. If you are an experienced producer and have suggestions or see a missing element in the plan, please step up.
It would be great to reach out to our local movie friendly food establishments, explain what we are up to and ask for catering donations. Many of us will be there for 6 hours or more. If you can help coordinate this, please contact Dan Kelly.
Location
Here’s some shots of UpNorth and the LIAA facility, there are at least 6 locations for hot sets far enough away from one another for discrete audio. Visually, they can either be separate environments or we can unify the overall look by using the gray walls as uncluttered backdrops.
Location 1 – Studio
Location 2 – Munson entrance
Location 3 – Computer Lab
Location 4 – Conference room
Location 5 – Library
Location 6 – Kitchen, Dining
