Micro Movie Marathon
What
M33M is a biannual festival of 3 minute movies made by people in and around Northern Michigan.
The acronym M33M (aka Micro Movie Marathon) is derived as follows: Michigan Movie Makers (M3) + 3 Minutes (3M) = M33M.
All genres are welcome – trailers for longer projects, sneak previews, short form narrative, mini documentaries, spoofs, show reels, experimental, beyond category, commercials, promotional, pure art, animation – s’all good!
Who
All Northern Michigan Movie Makers are encouraged to enter, including entrepreneurs, artists, students and enthusiasts. It might seem counter intuitive to lump together a hodgepodge of expertise and motivations, but a vital community is diverse! We are are an…
We may have different reasons for making movies, but we all contribute to a vibrant production community. If an oak is an acorn’s way of making more acorns, could a mentor be a protégé’s way of making more protégés? Experience and experimentation are complementary.
Everyone can and should enter a 3 minute movie.
Why
The pragmatic and essential outcome will be to create an immediate and accessible inventory of the community, of our collective movie making talent and resources.
Movie making is (usually) collaborative. Before initiating robust collaborations, we need to know who is out there and what they are doing. The spectrum of Northern Michigan movie makers include entrepreneurs, artists, students, enthusiasts and innumerable hybrids. If everyone entered a 3 minute movie into the Micro Movie Marathon, we’d be well on our way to a comprehensive and accessible inventory of our community. This would be a real asset for future projects – whether you’re an Oscar Winner or YouTube hero.
When
- Entry Deadline for 3 minute movies

Feel the love. - Movies made by people who were in, from or dreaming about Northern Michigan during production – including residents and visitors. Northern Michigan includes any place north of Grand Rapids including the UP.

Hi!
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate a Festival of this scale—and how much I appreciate it being accessible.
Whew.
Also—did you get my submission? (I know there were some problems with e-mail earlier.
Hey Joe. Yep – got it and showed it, we’ll be posting a report on M33M 2012 Summer soonish.
Tryed to leave DVD at InOut in Traverse City on 7-23-12 and they were closed?
Hey Jeff!
Michigan Movie Makers has no affiliation with IO except as a place to meet. I can see where the guidelines might have been unclear, the address for mailing / hand delivery by the 23 is/was my studio in Beulah. Before the guidelines said…
“DVDs can also be hand delivered or shipped via USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc, by July 23, 2012.”
Followed by my address. Now it reads…
“DVDs can also be hand delivered or shipped via USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc, by July 23, 201 to…”
Followed by my address. 🙂 Thanks for your feedback, sorry about the confusion. Looking forward to your entry in January 2013.
